Edgemont locals packed an information meeting hosted by Bell Canada Wednesday to protest plans for a cellphone tower in their area.

Some residents in the Knights Road area are concerned that they haven't been consulted over a proposal to erect a telecommunications microwave tower and related equipment on top of the Waterloo Interchange building.

When Dr. Ronald B. Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, sent out a memo to 3,000 faculty and staff members to limit their cell phone use due to possible risks to the immune system and bone marrow, many thought he was over-reacting to unpublished studies.

I hope parents aren't being misled by a recent front-page story in the Arizona Daily Star ("TUSD scraps West Side cell-phone tower plans," Aug. 23). As the article indicates, Robins Elementary Principal Elizabeth Minno said the tower issue "might be brought up for discussion in the future."

Now is an appropriate time for ICNIRP to review its achievements, strategy, philosophy and challenges for the future to be relevant to an ever-changing world. The program of the Workshop will allow considerable scope for participants to provide their [insights] on how a 21st century ICNIRP should function.”

Well-known neurosurgeon Keith Goh has seen an increase in the number of cases of malignant brain tumours and this is worrying him — especially as more and more are young adults, even children.
